This is a brand-new Peak Challenge for 2022; a full on 12 hour mountain expedition in the Lake District starting and finishing at the New Dungeon Ghyll hotel in Langdale.The walk begins with a steep ascent up to Stickle Tarn and then on to Pavey Ark before heading around the north eastern rim of the Langdale Valley.
Following this the mid-section of the walk takes you from Angle Tarn past the steep cliffs of Great End onto Sprinkling Tarn before embarking on the challenging corridor route up Scafell Pike.
Once the summit of Scafell Pike is reached then the high rocky and craggy plateau over to Great End is traversed before heading eastwards to Esk Hause where a welcome rest is gained in the fantastic little dry stone wall shelter.It’s then a steep ascent up to Esk Pike and across to Bow Fell before dropping down to the rocky Crinkle Crags with the notorious bad step at the end.
From here to view southwards and westwards over Mosedale towards Harter Fell and the Old Man of Coniston is absolutely wonderful. Pike o Blisco, the final summit at 705 m, can be seen with its perfectly formed pointed summit. From here it is about an hour back down through some wonderful scenery to the car park at hotel that you started from and a well earned rest.

Important things to know...
- It’s tough
- It’s long
- It’s rewarding
- Make sure your boots fit, are waterproof, comfy.
- Pack light – don’t bring heavy items you don’t need.
- Stay over in a quaint B&B is recommended.
- Walking poles are great – if you have them, use them
- If it’s sunny, take sunglasses, sun cream and a sun hat.
- It’s ok to come along on your own as an individual. There are so many likeminded folks, you’ll make friends very quickly!
