The Welsh 3000s is an amazing and life changing challenge. It is brutal if completed within 24 hours and should not be underestimated. However it is totally achievable by anyone with a good level of fitnessand a good head for heights (even though it is a huge step up from the Yorkshire Three Peaks or even the National Three Peaks.)
It climbs all fifteen 3000 foot high mountains in the Snowdonia National Park in a single continuous push with the actual route going through three distinct zones; the Snowdonia massif, the Glyders and the Carneddau and generally is run from south to north.
There are a few sections of exposed climbing and scrambling includingCrib Goch and Tryfan (The only peak outside Scotland where the summit cannot be attained without the use of one’s hands).
Since it is such a tough challenge when one tries to complete it in 24 hours we offer a two day version that is a bit more leisurely! The record for doing the Welsh 3000s is four hours and 20 minutes – atotally unbelievable time! These official timings are recorded from the first to the last peak and do not take into account the ascent or descent from these peaks.
The main route begins at Pen y Pass at the summit of the Llanberis
pass and finishes 50 km later in the northern part of the park near the
seaside town of Llanfairfechan.
